But too often, these races are overshadowed by presidential, gubernatorial, and even other, more prominent local races. That’s why we work to raise awareness about the importance of school board elections and to inform voters about their choices through nonpartisan candidate forums. Duval School Board members play a crucial role in the direction of public schools in our community, teacher satisfaction and student success.
Members of the public joined JPEF for the School Board Elections Public Forums held in August at the Jessie Ball duPont Center at 40 E Adams Street. They were also broadcast on Facebook Live. Click below to watch the recordings and read our summary of the forums on the blog.
This year the Jacksonville Public Education Fund (JPEF) hosted the first ever School Board Candidate Academy. The objective of this one-day intensive workshop is to strengthen the knowledge and understanding school board candidates have about current educational issues. The academy hopes to provide a clear understanding of relevant issues that the members will face in their potential role through data-driven discussion and exposure to Jacksonville parent, student and teacher voices.
