As part of its celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (FCHCC) awarded ten local Latino students with scholarships to continue their education. The students received the Achieving The Dream Scholarship at the Hispanic Heritage Gala that took place on September 29 at the WJCT Studios. Over 200 people gathered to celebrate the Hispanic Heritage and the scholarship recipients.
According to Pew Research Center, as of 2014, only 15% of Hispanics ages 25-29 held a bachelor’s degree or higher. The FCHCC recognizes that financial constraints are one of the many reasons impeding Latino students in their pursuit of higher education. For more than two decades, the FCHCC has sponsored Achieving The Dream scholarships by distributing funds to deserving local Hispanic students.
The winners of Achieving The Dream are selected through a rigorous process that includes financial need, academic performance and community service.
As the Chair of the Achieving The Dream Scholarship committee, I want to congratulate each of the students for their amazing accomplishments and for the future they all have ahead!
