Teacher Feature: Meet Annie R. Morgan's Teacher of the Year!

Great teachers work tirelessly to ensure each and every student in our city is prepared to make valuable contributions to our city in life beyond the classroom. That is why the Jacksonville Public Education Fund (JPEF) is proud to honor the amazing teaching and learning that is happening in Duval County through the Teacher of the Year program. The journey begins when teachers are nominated by their colleagues and principals at the school level. From there, teachers are invited to participate in the EDDY Awards Experience where we have the pleasure of celebrating the incredible work happening in their classrooms.

As one way of showcasing these outstanding 177 school-level teachers of the year, we are excited to share their stories with you on our blog through the Teacher of the Year Series. Read on to discover how Elizabeth Tamblyn exemplifies the incredible work happening in Duval County Public Schools.

Meet Elizabeth Tamblyn, Fifth Grade Teacher at Annie R. Morgan Elementary School

I received both my Bachelors in Sociology and my Masters in Elementary Education from the University of Florida. Go Gators! For my internship, I worked in a K-2 multiage classroom with some of the most wonderful teachers and colleagues. I knew I wanted to return home to Jacksonville to teach so I was thrilled to accept a position at Annie R. Morgan and have loved the opportunities that have come from my experiences here thus far!

My favorite thing about teaching is seeing my students strive to be the best they can be in both academic and social situations. It is amazing to see a student change throughout the year or to see students change others around them in a positive way.

“Kris and I both look forward to hearing Elizabeth tell us stories about student successes and challenges and see the genuine excitement on her face when one of her students does something awesome or experiences academic growth. From kittens in backpacks to puppies named “Sir Licks-a-lot,” Elizabeth has fun in her classroom and her school. Elizabeth has always been focused on bringing out the best in those around her. I am sure that her students are motivated by her creative teaching strategies and heartfelt desire to help them achieve their true potential as both students and citizens.”
- Chuck and Kris Tamblyn, Elizabeth’s parents.

Annie R. Morgan is a unique school because we have a principal and assistant principal that work tirelessly to ensure that all of our students' needs are met daily. They go above and beyond and inspire us as teachers daily to go the extra mile for our kids. Our staff works extremely hard to provide a safe and loving environment for all of the children at our school. Also, we do a food drive for Thanksgiving in which students and teachers bring in canned and non-perishables and create baskets to give to the families of our students who need them the most. Reaching out to the community and the families of those we teach every day is crucial to our success and vision.

My colleagues make me a better educator through their wonderful spirits and their drive to succeed. I am always talking with my peers where we share ideas, strategies and success stories. I have met some of my greatest friends here at Annie R. Morgan and without their support, smiles and serious love for learning I would not be the teacher that I am today.

Jacksonville’s teachers work hard to improve their students’ lives and our community as a whole. Please join JPEF in congratulating Elizabeth Tamblyn as the 2017-2018 Annie R. Morgan Teacher of the Year! Leave a comment for Elizabeth below or share your congratulations via Facebook or Twitter using the hashtags #EDDYAwardsJax, #JaxThanksATeacher.
