On Tuesday, the State Board of Education voted on important changes to the way School Grades are calculated.
And because of advocacy in Jacksonville and around the state, the modifications they approved looked much different than the original proposal, which would have graded schools that serve students with severe disabilities and given an automatic 'F' grade to any school where fewer than 25 percent of students were not reading at a proficient level.
Instead, the State BOE significantly revised the changes. Read the full extent of them here.
Along with partners all over Duval County, JPEF had serious concerns about the original proposal. We sent you our Policy Alert on the issue - and you responded!
Thanks to your calls and e-mails - as well as advocacy from around Florida - the outcome changed.
