Dr. Smith joined Loudoun County Public Schools in April 2022. He comes from Fairfax County Public Schools where he served as the principal of Lake Braddock Secondary School, the largest school in the state of Virginia. He brings more than 16 years experience as a principal at the elementary, middle and high school levels. Prior to his service in Fairfax, he served as a principal in Virginia Beach City Public Schools and Page County Public Schools.  In 2021, Dr. Smith was recognized as the Virginia PTA Secondary Principal of the Year and the Fairfax County Public Schools Region 4 Outstanding Principal of the Year.

Dr. Smith’s career began in Kotzebue, Alaska, as a middle/high school teacher and coach. Since returning to Virginia, Dr. Smith has been actively involved in leading education in the Commonwealth. He has served two terms on the Virginia High School League (VHSL) Executive Committee and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Virginia ASCD and the University of Virginia K12 Advisory Council.  

Dr. Smith holds a Bachelor’s degree from James Madison University in Kinesiology, a Master's degree from Shenandoah University in Education Administration and a Doctorate from the University of Virginia in Education, Curriculum and Instruction.
