Dr. Luis Solano has been with the Detroit Public Schools Community District since 2017, serving as the Deputy Superintendent of Labor and the Chief Operating Officer. Solano previously worked as an administrator in Collier County Public Schools, and as a teacher, assistant principal and principal in Miami-Dade County Public Schools.

According to his application, Solano is fluent in Spanish and credits his teachers for helping him become the first in his family to fluently speak, read and write in English. Solano is also a U.S. Army veteran. Dr. Solano has a bachelor’s in special education from Florida International University, a master’s degree in business administration from Nova Southeastern University, and is a doctorate in education at the University of West Florida.

“It has and will continue to be the privilege of my life to serve children and families. I pledge to continue to dedicate every ounce of my being to the children of the communities I serve I the near future, and pledge to bring that same level of passion, compassion and commitment and love to the students and families of Duval Public Schools,” Solano says.
