EDTalks 2023, Student Resiliency

Wednesday, September 27

Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront

11:30 AM - 1:00 PM

The Jacksonville Public Education Fund invites you to be a part of the fourth biennial EDTalks event, which brings education's thought leaders to Jacksonville to share innovative ideas, best practices and approaches that are working around the country and around the world. Education leaders, supporters and partners are inspired at EDTalks to take action and work together to move the needle on important issues facing our students.

Featuring Dr. Shawn Ginwright

This year, JPEF will be joined by keynote speaker Shawn Ginwright, PhD.

Dr. Ginwright is one of the nation's leading innovators, provocateurs, and thought leaders on African American youth, youth activism, and youth development.

His research examines the ways in which youth in urban communities navigate through the constraints of poverty and struggle to create equality and justice in their schools and communities.

Dr. Ginwright is Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Flourish Agenda, Inc., a national nonprofit consulting firm, whose mission is to design strategies that unlock the power of healing and engage youth of color and adult allies in transforming their schools and communities.

The event is being chaired by Kemal Gasper, Vice President of Community Engagement for VyStar Credit Union; Rhianna Scyster, Community Equity and Policy Manager for 904WARD; and Ann Miller. Deborah Quazzo will serve as master of ceremonies for the event.

“We know the pandemic had an impact on our students, educators and community as a whole,” said JPEF President Rachael Tutwiler Fortune. “But we also know that we can overcome a lot with the proper support and tools. Dr. Ginwright presents a healing centered approach, focusing on what he calls, ‘what’s right with you.’ We are excited to bring Dr. Ginwright to Jacksonville for this important discussion as we examine how we support students and help them succeed in school and life.”
