The Jacksonville Public Education Fund had an amazing response to the release of our new policy paper today! We started the day with briefing sessions with state legislators and then community members and had a successful press conference following the release of the report. Now, it's up to YOU to take action.

It couldn't be more important time to talk about funding for public education. In 2011, the state of Florida cut 1.4 billion from public education; in Duval County, the board wrestled with a $91 million shortfall. Further reductions will make 2012 no easier. School funding is a volatile and emotional issue, and it is complicated.
This brief attempts to bring forward a simple and clear-headed analysis to answer a few important questions:

Today, we received some very encouraging news: Duval County's high school graduation rate is going up! Duval County's graduation rate rose to 71.2 percent, an increase of 4.6 percentage points over last year and 11.4 percentage points from five years ago.

An amazing afternoon of conversation and performance set the stage for youth involvement in public education reform at the ONE by ONE Student Voices event on Saturday, December 10. Around 70 youth from all over Jacksonville converged on the Murray Hill Theatre on the Westside to be among the first people to participate in the ONE by ONE conversations that aim to build a community-based action plan for public schools.
