My summer at JPEF: a future educator learns from Duval’s teachers of the year

While at JPEF, I have worked with Zak Champagne to plan the 2019 EDDYs Awards, which celebrates Duval County’s teachers of the year. In addition, I have had the opportunity to work with the previous year’s finalists, giving me valuable insight into the field of education and guidance from amazing teachers for when I have a classroom of my own.

More than 4,000 people watched the three Duval County School Board candidate forums hosted by the Jacksonville Public Education Fund during the first week of August. Most candidates running for Districts 4, 2 and 6 attended the forums, which appeared in the news feeds of more than 17,000 people as of August 13th.

On June 26, all candidates running for School Board for Districts 2, 4, and 6 had an opportunity to attend the first School Board Candidate Academy (Academy) hosted by the Jacksonville Public Education Fund. Sixteen of the 17 candidates participated. Duval School Board Candidate Academy is a new initiative of the Jacksonville Public Education Fund to connect candidates for Duval school board to important data and diverse community perspectives.
