More about the release of 10th grade FSAs, including school-level results

Following up on our post from last week on the state’s release of preliminary district performance data on 2014-15 Algebra 1 and 10th grade ELA exams, below is a summary of some additional data on individual school performance that was released today.
As a reminder, please be sure to read our full blog post from last week on what these preliminary, equipercentile-linked scores do and do not mean as you consider the numbers below. It is important to interpret the results here strictly in context. In general, the data being released now can be used to gauge some degree of information about how schools did in transitioning to the new FSA assessments relative to other schools, but it should be clearly noted that these are not final "baseline" scores that will reflect how students did on the specific criteria of the new tests and which will be used to measure progress going forward.
Keeping this in mind is particularly important for trying to minimize confusion and discern between multiple sets of numbers when the “real” results are released several months from now.
Bearing that in mind, below are some overall summary updates on the performance of DCPS schools as per the state’s recent data release:
10th Grade English/Language Arts Assessment
- 12 schools' passing rates went up
- 14 schools' passing rates went down
- 4 schools' passing rates stayed the same
- 17 schools did not have either 2014 or 2015 data to compare across years
- The largest "improvements" among DCPS schools were:
1. Duval County Charter High School at Baymeadows (+12)
2. William Raines HS (+9)
3. [tie] Terry Parker HS & A. Philip Randolph Academies (+6)
- The largest "drops" among DCPS schools were:
1. Samuel Wolfson HS (-9)
2. [tie] Westside HS & Frank H. Peterson Academies (-8)
3. [tie] Duncan Fletcher HS, San Jose Preparatory HS, Duval Virtual Instruction Academy (-7)
- Performance among the DTO high schools included:
- Andrew Jackson HS (-1, from 20% to 19%)
- Jean Ribault HS (+3, from 21% to 24%)
- William Raines HS (+9, from 13% to 22%)
Spring Algebra 1 Assessment
- 29 schools' passing rates went up
- 22 schools' passing rates went down
- 2 schools' passing rates stayed the same
- 26 schools did not have either 2014 or 2015 data to compare across years
- The largest "improvements" among DCPS schools were:
1. Jefferson Davis Middle School (+55)
2. Somerset Eagle High School (+37)
3. San Jose Preparatory High (+33)
- The largest "drops" among DCPS schools were:
1. Waverly Academy (-33)
2. [tie] Duval Virtual Instruction Academy and School of Success (-24)
3. Mandarin High School (-22)
- Performance among the DTO schools with Algebra 1 data:
- Andrew Jackson HS (-7, from 41% to 34%)
- Jean Ribault HS (+19, from 31% to 50%)
- William Raines HS (-8, from 36% to 28%)
- Matthew Gilbert MS (-7, from 92% to 85%)
Note: Data is from 2014 and 2015 spring administrations of Algebra 1 End-of-Course (EOC) assessment. Middle schools are included in this comparison since students can take the EOC assessment if enrolled in Algebra 1 during their 8th grade year.
