On the morning of October 10th, more than twenty community members gathered in the Duval County Public School administration building ready to get in a school bus to visit Matthew Gilbert Middle School, one of many successful local schools that's known for their ability to engage parents.

Discover Duval Schools is the new initiative in which the Jacksonville Public Education Fund is partnering with the Duval County Public Schools to increase understanding of the diverse and high-quality academic offerings provided by the local district all around the city.

The first visit was a total success! Participants were able to meet the Duval County Public School Superintendent, Dr. Nikolai Vitti. Participants experienced a full day that many of our children have daily when attending schools.  Feedback taken from surveys shows that participants were positively impressed with the quality of instruction, the higher-level thinking, teaching and learning that they observed at Matthew Gilbert.

By bringing community members from various backgrounds to the schools we expect to provide them with real opportunities to learn about all the good things that are happening in our local schools.

There will be one Discover Duval school visit each month. Click here to learn more about Discover Duval Schools or register for an upcoming tour!
