Carl Bennett was among one of many participants of Discover Duval Schools visit to Robert E. Lee High School on November 19. What sets Bennett apart from others was his story and connection to Robert E. Lee High School. Bennett is a Jacksonville native and an alumni of Robert E. Lee High School's Class of 1955. Being a General runs in the family! Bennett's mother graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. Bennett's father was a part of the first graduating class of Robert E. Lee in 1928.

During the Discover Duval Schools visit at Robert E. Lee High School, participants traveled to three distinct classes offered including engineering, early college and NJROTC classrooms. The focus topic was Postsecondary Readiness. Robert E. Lee High School is a Science, Math, Engineering Academy Magnet school. Click here to learn more about the school's magnet program.

Robert E. Lee High School was recently renovated yet original tiles from the school building remains throughout the halls. Bennett and other Alumni on the school tour remembered those same tiles from their respective high school days. Engineering, Early College and NJROTC students shared their goals and aspirations with community members at the end of the tour. Community members were able to ask students about their academic journey's, proposed solutions to our city's transportation system and how prepared they were for applying for college scholarships.
