Draft district strategic plan mirrors three of four ONE by ONE priorities

2/12/2013

Monday, the Duval County School Board met to discuss revisions to its mission, vision, core values and strategic plan. Superintendent Nikolai Vitti and board members mentioned repeatedly the role that the ONE by ONE community agreement had in the development of the plan.

The district's draft plan focuses on raising student achievement through four goals:

(1) Great Teachers and Leaders
(2) Engage Caregivers and Community
(3) Develop the Whole Child
(4) Equitable and Efficient Use of Resources.

The first three goals parallel three of the four goals identified in the ONE by ONE Community Agreement.

Delegates to the ONE by ONE community convention considered the district's fourth goal, Equitable and Efficient Use of Resources, in their deliberations. There was strong agreement among delegates that resources will be critical in the district's improvement, but that the pursuit of those resources should be tied to a specific goal, such as improving the teacher pipeline.

The ONE by ONE Community Agreement is still accepting ratifications from community members. It's easy and takes less than two minutes to add your name to the growing list of supporters of improving our public schools.

The Jacksonville Public Education Fund will post a link to the district's draft strategic plan as soon as possible.
