Duval County School Board candidate forums take place Monday and Tuesday!
While the nation’s attention for the last year has no doubt been turned towards the presidential campaigns, here in Duval County we haven’t forgotten about local elections, which have a great impact on our everyday lives. Among many other elected offices, community members will be voting August 30 for new school board members in Districts 5 and 7.
The Duval County School Board is a crucial group of elected officials that have a big impact on our children and our community as a whole. The School Board is the official policy-making body for all education-related issues in Duval County Public Schools. One of the most important roles of the seven school board members is to appoint and oversee the superintendent, as well as make decisions on classroom curriculum, some budget allocations, among other important responsibilities.
In an effort to educate the community about their choices for school board and promote the importance of voting in school board elections, a coalition of 23 nonprofit, nonpartisan organizations will be hosting public forums this week for each district. All are welcome to attend, and we encourage the audience to ask their questions to the candidates.

Education-related issues affect everyone in our community. When Duval County students graduate high school prepared for college and the workforce, our city, our state and our country become more vibrant and economically strong.
