How you can help those still recovering from Hurricane Irma

9/28/2017

Jacksonville citizens demonstrated a true heart for service and a determination to see our most affected communities restored after the devastation caused by Hurricane Irma. More than $2 million in resources to support Hurricane Irma recovery efforts were pledged through Florida’s First Coast Relief Fund. And fortunately, Duval County Public Schools was able to resume instruction early last week in safe school buildings for our children. For these efforts, Jacksonville Public Education Fund wants to sincerely thank everyone who lent a helping hand.

Many are still recovering from the storm. We want to make sure you are aware of critical resources available to you and your community:

  • Find storm FAQs compiled by the city of Jacksonville at here.
  • For information about Florida Virtual School, which is providing remote access to educational resources to Florida students displaced by Hurricane Irma, visit here.
  • Also, take a look at these resources on how to talk with children after natural disasters.

The devastation caused by natural disasters like Hurricane Irma is unexpected and can be overwhelming for students and their families, as well as the educators who serve them throughout the school year. As Jacksonville was hit by record-setting flooding from Hurricane Irma, many homes, schools, businesses and community centers experienced significant damage, thousands of our neighbors were without power for days while JEA worked relentlessly to restore it.

If the Jacksonville Public Education Fund can do anything to help you and your family or school community get connected to critical resources, please don’t hesitate to email us at info@jaxpef.org. Our most positive impact is felt when we come together as a community and support each other.
