Jacksonville Public Education Fund highlights organization's priorities for the coming years

President Trey Csar has identified supporting the adults in and around our public schools as a priority when it comes to improving the public school system as a whole. By strengthening the systems that support child development, we are living up to our shared responsibility to make our city a place where all children can learn, grow and become responsible citizens themselves.

Public schools belong to the Jacksonville community, and we intend to provide opportunities for parents, caregivers and other community members to inform, advocate for and support excellent teachers and school leaders in their neighborhoods. So how do we, as a community, get the best teachers, develop the strongest curriculums, and set the highest standards for our kids?
At the Jacksonville Public Education Fund, we join Duval County Public Schools in embracing and elevating its vision that every student is inspired and prepared for success in college or a career and life. However, making this vision a reality comes with challenges. Each school in the Duval County Public School system has unique opportunities for growth including addressing the social and emotional needs of students, economic and racial equity, mental health, teacher recruitment and retention, etc. We know that every student in Duval County has the potential to achieve at high levels. How do we spark innovation, relationships and resources to power that potential so that all students can achieve excellent outcomes?
Although there is no “silver bullet” when it comes to improving our public schools, we believe that the priority should be on making sure that teachers, parents, principals and district leaders have the best support systems available.
As an independent organization, we intend to partner with Duval County Public Schools to strengthen its efforts to build a system and culture that attracts, supports and retains excellent people. We will continue to expand our current efforts through the Teacher of the Year recognition process and Teacher Roundtable advocacy initiative to elevate and empower excellent teachers with leadership and advocacy opportunities beyond the classroom to improve retention, school culture and skills transfer to other teachers.
We will also be working on some new initiatives to help increase knowledge and define opportunities for elevating and growing the pool of exceptional school leaders. Our city’s most important resource is the potential of its children. When we support a strong public education system, we invest in our children’s ability to contribute to our city’s future.
