Keep your kids reading this summer at the Jacksonville Public Library

The Jacksonville Public Library kicked off a Summer Reading program this month to help children and teens to develop and maintain literacy skills during the summer. The Summer Reading program is for every age group with fun activities and prizes!
The Summer Reading program runs from June 1 to August 15. The library provides a book list that can help children and teenagers explore science and arts. Parents can register and log books for their child or teen to receive a free book prize! There's a limit of one book per child, while supplies last so start reading now!
Here's what parents can expect:
From birth to 5 years old

Storytime to promote language development, vocabulary building and comprehension

Printable guides for early childhood and school age children programs

Can earn a free book by reading or listening to 20 books with a caregiver

Can earn a special prize by completing activities in the Library Lab Card
For children ages 5 - 12

Can earn a free book by reading at least 10 books

Can earn a special prize by completing activities in the Library Lab Card
For teens and tweens ages 10 - 18

Teens ages 12-18 can participate in a Short Story Contest by submitting an original short story and volunteering 10 hours at a local library. There's a $100 prize! The submission deadline is July 1.
