Key fall dates for teacher leaders in Duval schools

8/31/2015

It’s hard to believe that it’s only the second week of school, and already September is upon us!

Teachers, we cannot wait to hear about all of the amazing things that you and your students are going to do this year. As you plan your fall, we want to make sure you’re plugged in to a few ways to exert your leadership and share some of your expertise with a wider circle.

Mark these important dates on your calendar and plan to take advantage of these opportunities to extend your leadership, fund your innovative classroom projects and be inspired by your fellow educators.

September 12 - WJCT TEACH Conference
This conference is back for a fourth year, and the Jacksonville Public Education Fund is proud to be a sponsor. We’re also giving away some free tickets! The first 40 registrants for the Teacher Roundtable will also receive a free ticket to TEACH. More details here.

September 14 - Deadline for PowerUP Jax fall cycle grants
As you may know, PowerUP Jax continues this year with a revamped format aimed at helping teachers innovate — not fund-raise! Thanks to Community First, 20 teachers will receive $500 grants and get a chance for another $150 through the Lightning Round contest. Plus, all grantees will be in the running for the Community First Innovation Prize, which includes a $1,000 cash award. Learn more on the PowerUP Jax website.

September 19 - Fall Teacher Roundtable Part A
Join public school teachers from all over Duval County to discuss the fall Teacher Roundtable topic: Professional Development. What does professional development mean to you? What’s working and what’s not? Be a part of the movement to elevate the voices of teachers and register today! And don’t forget to check out the results of the spring Teacher Roundtable.

October 10 - Fall Teacher Roundtable Part B
Make sure to attend the Teacher Roundtable Part B, where discussion turns to action planning! Review the results of the Part A discussion, then prioritize and brainstorm actionable ideas! Register now.

October 19 - ONE by ONE Public Education Forum
Make your voice heard at this quarterly ONE by ONE event, which will focus on the transition to the Florida Standards and the new test scores that will be out this fall. This is an essential time for teachers to help community members understand this transition and all that it means for our schools and our students. Learn more.

The fun doesn’t end in the fall — stay tuned for even more opportunities to make your voice heard! Save the date for the ONE by ONE Convention on January 23, 2016, and the 25th Anniversary EDDY Awards on March 12, 2016.

Teachers, what are the challenges do you face this year, and what are you most looking forward to?
