ONE in THREE leaves the Cummer, moves to Downtown

Four months ago, the Jacksonville Public Education Fund and the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens joined forces with the belief that art has the power to spark social change.
Since then, more than 27,000 people have seen the exhibition ONE in THREE: Let's Solve Our Dropout Crisis, which aims to inspire viewers to join our ONE by ONE initiative. The goal of ONE by ONE: Unite the community to create a shared vision for public schools in Duval County.
Tomorrow, staff at the Cummer will begin deinstalling the exhibit, and starting on January 12, the exhibition will be on display at the Ritz Theatre and Museum as well as the Main/Downtown Branch of the Jacksonville Public Library.
The January opening event takes place at the Ritz Theatre and Museum from 5:30-8 p.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2012. It is free and open to the public.
Over the next eight months, the ONE in THREE exhibition will travel throughout the city of Jacksonville on the following schedule:

Through dramatic portraits by local photographer Ingrid Damiani, the ONE in THREE exhibition displays the faces and stories of 20 current and former students of Duval County Public Schools. Each student featured in the exhibition has faced obstacles to achieving academic success. Among those who have beaten the odds, one common thread is clear: community support.
As the exhibition travels throughout Jacksonville in 2012, ONE by ONE will bring together thousands of people from every neighborhood to speak out about what our public schools need - and document closely what they say.
But the goal is not simply to talk. From those ideas, a volunteer-led Community Advisory Team will create an action plan that truly represents our entire city.
The process began in November and December with conversations with teachers and students, and will ramp up in January with two additional public events and the begining of small conversations in individual homes, places of worship and at community organizations. A special day of conversations for parents takes place on January 21 at the Ritz Theatre.
