Part 2 of our Cash to Classrooms drew a great crowd last night to the Florida Times-Union auditorium, where ONE by ONE delegates and community members learned about the 2013-14 Duval County Public Schools budget from Superintendent Nikolai Vitti. Then, Dr. Vitti and the more than 60 people present engaged in a discussion about some of the key features of the budget, which was rebuilt this year to align with the priorities of the district's new strategic plan. (Did you miss Part 1? Check out the results and documents here.)

ONE by ONE delegates Zak Champagne and Ebony Johnson facilitated the dialogue. School Board members Becki Couch and Jason Fischer were also present.

You can see a summary of the event in tweets and photos here. Download an FAQ and Highlights sheet distributed by the district here. See below for the slides that Dr. Vitti presented at the meeting.

So what's next? The Duval County School Board is set to hold a first vote on the budget at a meeting at 5:05 p.m. on July 30, where there will be a public hearing. Want to speak as a ONE by ONE delegate? Let us know.
