Conversation to action begins now!

Jacksonville, Fla.-- One year ago, the Jacksonville Public Education Fund launched the ONE by ONE community mobilization campaign with an initial goal of holding 75 small group conversations all over Duval County.

By October 1,2012, the ONE by ONE campaign had exceeded all goals set for it, reaching a total of 169 conversations with 1,649 diverse participants from every part of the city who shared their aspirations and priorities for public schools in Duval County.

Moving from conversation to action, the Jacksonville Public Education Fund will kick off the next phase of ONE by ONE today with the first of five regional meetings where the public can review all 15 themes that emerged from mthe conversations. The meeting takes place today, Monday, October 22, from 6:30-8 p.m. at Florida State College at Jacksonville North Campus. The full meeting schedule is below.

There, participants receive a 12-page policy brief looking at results of a inductive qualitative analysis of conversation notes, as well as a survey of conversation participants. Those at the regional meetings will be asked to indicate which themes are priorities for them. Download the full policy brief here.

Over the next month, participants in the conversations, the regional meetings and the public are asked to nominate delegates to a January 5 community agreement drafting convention, where the themes identified in the conversations will be distilled into 5-6 key priorities for public schools. The public is asked to nominate a delegate online at www.onebyonejax.org.

"The next phase of ONE by ONE is really coming at an ideal time," said Trey Csar, President of the Jacksonville Public Education Fund. "With new leaders joining the Duval County School Board and a new superintendent on board, there couldn't be a better time to strengthen the role our community plays in public schools."

Modeled after a successful initiative in Mobile, Ala., ONE by ONE drew demographically representative participants from every part of Duval County. Trained volunteers facilitated and scribed the conversations in private homes, religious organizations, businesses, civic groups and schools in every part of the city. The results of each individual conversation are posted online at www.onebyonejax.org/conversations.
