Teacher Academy boosts energy as school year approaches

8/7/2013

Teacher AcademyThis summer, Duval County Public Schools offered a new professional development opportunity to teachers district-wide. Called the Teacher Academy, the weeklong sessions took place all over the county throughout the late summer.

I had the opportunity to attend one of the sessions of the new Teacher Academy at Sandalwood High School and I was very impressed with how engaged teachers were. Around 100 middle school teachers were gathered at Sandalwood to discuss relevant topics related to different types of reading assessments, Common Core and much more.

At the session I attended, representatives from City Year were also present, and they spoke enthusiastically about their volunteer work at Duval County Public Schools.

Kudos to Duval County Public Schools and Superintendent Vitti for hosting this professional development event in which not only teachers but other members of the community had the opportunity to learn about important topics that will help our schools to be better.
