Walking the halls of Duval schools

One of the Jacksonville Public Education Fund’s core values is being student-centered. We make decisions first and foremost on what is in the best interest of children in Duval County, with a special focus on students who face barriers to obtaining a high-quality education. We believe all students can achieve at high levels when provided with high-quality instruction and support.
That’s why we take advantage of opportunities to walk the halls of Duval schools to engage with local students. On February 24, Imani Hope, Deirdre Conner, Trey Csar and I joined the Ribault Alumni Group & The Florida Tour for the 12th Annual College/Career Fair. The gymnasium was filled with senior and junior students of Jean Ribault, William M. Raines, Andrew Jackson, A. Philip Randolph and Terry Parker High School.
Trey and I were life coaches for students — we encouraged students to explore the vast number of colleges, universities, businesses and military branches represented in the room. Dr. Jordan Baker, a JPEF Board member, also attended the career fair as a life coach. Deirdre and Imani spoke with students about internship and volunteer opportunities.
