Duval's Teacher of the Year is one of five state finalists

It got off to a great start with the announcement that Apryl Shackelford, 2013 Florida Blue Duval County Teacher of the Year, was just named one of five finalists for 2014 Florida Teacher of the Year. (Photo courtesy of Duval County Public Schools)

Shackelford, a reading teacher at Northwestern Middle School, was surprised during the schools Teacher Appreciation assembly today. Check out the story on News 4 Jax here. Shackelford and Northwestern both received a check from the Macy's Foundation.

Shackelford and the four other finalists will travel to Orlando this summer, where the 2014 Florida Teacher of the Year will be announced.
