ONE by ONE Convention provides platform for student leaders
Parents, students, community members, teachers and education leaders will convene May 6
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., April 17, 2017 — Hundreds are expected at the Jacksonville Public Education Fund’s ONE by ONE Convention on Saturday, May 6 from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Omni Hotel. This year’s theme is “Students at the Center of the Conversation,” and the event will focus on the importance of listening to students in the work to improve public education. Attendance is free and open to the public but advance registration is required at jaxpef.org/convention.
Participants will have the opportunity to network with other advocates to align their efforts and take their work on behalf of public school students to the next level. Attendees will also learn to amplify student voices, identify opportunities for student-centered solutions and develop valuable community partnerships, and be inspired by student leaders with ideas and initiatives already underway in three of our local public schools, Dupont Middle, Edward White High School and the Young Women’s Leadership Academy at Eugene Butler Middle.
“We need the talents and contributions of all children to be available to our community in the future. Students provide invaluable insight to understanding the physical, emotional and social components that we know are key to academic success and fulfillment in life. When we bring students to the table, decision-makers can truly make decisions that are based first and foremost on what is in the best interest of children in Duval County,” Trey Csar, President of the Jacksonville Public Education Fund, said. “Public schools belong to the community — when students thrive, so does Jacksonville.”
Parents, teachers, students and public education advocates are encouraged to register by April 27 to attend the ONE by ONE Convention: Students at the Center of the Conversation. Visit jaxpef.org/convention to apply.
