Duval schools honored for excellence in community involvement

Twenty-five schools in Duval County have been honored with the Five Star Schools Award for 2018-19. The award recognizes schools that have demonstrated success in incorporating families and community members into the school environment. 

“Family, business and school partnerships are essential to student success," said Chancellor, Division of Public Schools Jacob Oliva. "As an educator, I have witnessed the impact of engaging with stakeholders to support students in our schools. The result of these connections is higher academic achievement and more students prepared for the future."

Below are the schools in Duval that received the Five Star School Award for the 2018-2019 school year:

  • Hendricks Avenue Elementary School
  • Holiday Hill Elementary School
  • John N.C. Stockton Elementary School
  • Loretto Elementary School
  • Mandarin High School
  • Mandarin Oaks Elementary School
  • Mayport Coastal Sciences Middle School
  • Neptune Beach Elementary School
  • Oceanway Elementary School
  • Ortega Elementary School
  • River City Science Academy at Mandarin
  • River City Science Elementary Academy

To earn Five Star School recognition, a school must show that it has achieved all of the benchmarks and criteria in five categories – Business partnerships, Family Involvement, Volunteerism, Student Community Service, and School Advisory Councils. Schools must also earn a grade of “C” or above or a school improvement rating of "maintaining or improving" for the year of nomination.
