First round of 2014 school grades out today

The Florida Department of Education released 2014 School Grades for elementary and middle schools today.
These are the last grades that will be based on student performance on the FCAT 2.0, with students and teachers fully transitioning to the new Florida Standards (with an affiliated new test) in the 2014-15 school year, as well as a new formula for calculating the grades.
Overall, results showed that among Duval County public schools:
- 59 schools dropped one letter grade (27 of those benefitted from the state's protection clause that keeps schools from dropping more than one letter grade this year).
- 59 schools stayed at the same letter grade as last year.
- 22 schools went up one letter grade or more (18 went up one letter grade, three went up two letter grades and, one school went up by three letter grades).
Duval County Public Schools reported that San Mateo, Louis Sheffield, and Southside Estates elementary schools, which achieved the highest point increases of 112, 111, 105 respectively, earned an A, up from point totals last year that equated to a D letter grade. These gains were achieved under the leadership of principals placed in those schools last year, the district said.
