ONE in THREE opens at City Hall

On Wednesday we were graciously hosted by Mayor Alvin Brown and his Education Commissioner, Donald Horner, for an opening reception at City Hall, where the ONE in THREE exhibit will be extended until the end of September.
CITY HALL HOSTS "ONE IN THREE" ART EXHIBIT OPENING
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Aug. 30, 2012 - Mayor Alvin Brown, Education Commissioner Dr. Donnie Horner Jr. and members of the Jacksonville Public Education Fund celebrated the installation of the traveling exhibit "ONE in THREE: Let's Solve our Dropout Crisis," in the City Hall Atrium Wednesday afternoon.
Two young adults featured in the exhibit, Travis Pinckney and Mercedes Trapp, addressed the audience. They shared stories of hardship in their formative years and their ability to find internal strength, and ultimately, academic and personal success through the support and positive influence of caring, engaged adults in their communities.
"Since day one of my administration, education has been a top priority," said Mayor Brown. "Jacksonville is fortunate to have community partners like the Jacksonville Public Education Fund leading the way. And I'm proud to host the ONE in THREE campaign here at City Hall. We all have a duty to lead by example and help the next generation. Our young people need us and they need our encouragement."
The ONE in THREE exhibit is designed to spark participation in the ONE by ONE initiative, a project of the nonprofit Jacksonville Public Education Fund, which is currently rallying local citizens to create a vision and action plan for public education through small group conversations all over the city. To date, 1,597 people have participated in 161 community conversations. The exhibit has traveled to ten Jacksonville venues, including City Hall, since its inception in August 2011 and has been seen by more than 75,000 residents.
