Our Children's Future: New Mission & Framework from JPEF

Join us in shaping the future for Jacksonville

8/21/2023

Education advocates and partners,

Let’s be very clear - this is a defining moment.

The world is evolving rapidly and so is the education landscape. Changing times call for bold and effective leadership and action from us all to define our future.

That’s why as the 2023-2024 school year begins, I am reaching out to share that JPEF has refined its mission statement and developed a new framework to guide our work in the coming years.

Today we see unprecedented levels of political polarization around education, but sound data and facts must be our community’s compass for which policies and practices are best for our kids

 We need our community to be informed and activated around just that - what’s best for our kids. You’ll see JPEF turn up the volume on this aspect of its work in this next chapter, specifically by:

  • Shaping Leadership: Providing the community with information regarding the superintendent search and encouraging them to be part of the process;

  • Elevating Education:Shining a spotlight on the 2024 School Board elections and highlighting the issues at stake; and

  • Empowering Democracy: Encouraging voter registration and participation in Duval County School Board elections.

We're committed to building upon our legacy as champions of data-driven decision-making for quality public education in Duval County. Our commitment comes to life through:

  • Forward-Thinking Collaboration:Together with MyVillage Project and 904WARD, we're engaging the community to craft an innovative curriculum during the Urban Education Symposium, setting the stage for the next generation.

  • Empowering Resilience: Join us for EDTalks 2023 with Dr. Shawn Ginwright. Let's explore the resilience needed by our students at this moment and the community's role in nurturing it.

  • Literacy for All:We're a proud partner helping to lead the READ JAX campaign, striving for community-wide literacy and the empowerment it brings. Improved literacy outcomes by third grade are essential for our community’s collaborative efforts.

I have reflected a lot recently on defining moments in my own life as well as that of our nation and community, and I found myself inspired by what happens when we exercise our agency and use our voices to inspire a better tomorrow.

Join us in compelling every member of our community to join hands and hearts in this crucial mission! Let’s shape the future together.

Sincerely yours,

Rachael Tutwiler Fortune
