School board narrows superintendent candidates to six semi-finalists

Today, the school board narrowed down the list of 26 candidates for Duval County Public Schools (DCPS) Superintendent to six semi-finalists. Each semi-finalist’s application, including resume, is available by clicking his or her name.

 

Michael Dunsmore - serves as the superintendent for Wayne County Public Schools (student enrollment 19,600) in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Dr. Dunsmore has previously served as a Supervisor of Special Education for school districts in Pennsylvania, which he credits for his dedication to typically underserved students and families.

 

 

Diana Greene - serves as the superintendent for the School District of Manatee County (student enrollment 49,000) in Bradenton, Florida. Dr. Greene has previously served Florida students as deputy superintendent, director of staff development and principal in Marion County.

 

 

Frederick Heid - serves as the superintendent for Community Unit School District 300 (student enrollment 21,000) in Algonquin, Illinois. Prior to this role, Mr. Heid was the Chief Academic Officer for DCPS where he supported the district’s principals and schools.
*Updated: Mr. Heid withdrew his candidacy for superintendent citing considerations for his family and current role. 

 

 

Sito Narcisse - serves as the Chief of Schools for Metro Nashville Public Schools (student enrollment 88,000) in Nashville, Tennessee. Previously, Dr. Narcisse served as associate superintendent for Prince George County Public Schools. He began his career in education as a teacher in Nashville.

 

 

 

Harrison Peters - serves as the Chief Academic Officer for Hillsborough County Public Schools (student enrollment 212,000) in Tampa, Florida. Before that, Mr. Peters was the Chief High School Officer in Houston, Texas and Chief of Schools in Chicago, Illinois. He started his education career in Florida as a teacher in Orlando.

 

 

Erick Pruitt - serves as the Area Superintendent for Houston Independent School District (HISD) (student enrollment 215,000) in Houston, Texas where he oversees one-fourth of the district’s schools (26,800 students). Prior to working in HISD, Dr. Pruitt served as a teacher, principal and deputy chief of schools for Chicago Public Schools.

 

Upcoming dates - UPDATED

  • May 11, 8 a.m. - Semi-finalist interviews by the School Board. DCPS, 1701 Prudential Dr.

  • May 12, 9 a.m. - Semi-finalist interviews by a committee of School Board-selected community leaders. Schultz Center, 4019 Boulevard Center Dr.

  • May 14, 6 p.m. - School Board determines finalists. Open to public comment. DCPS, 1701 Prudential Dr.

  • May 16-18, 9 a.m. - School Board conducts second round of interviews. DCPS, 1701 Prudential Dr. 

  • May 18, 5 p.m. - School Board selects preferred candidate. Open to public comment. DCPS, 1701 Prudential Dr.

  • July 1 or as negotiated - Superintendent assumes responsibility.
