JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Nov. 17, 2022 —The Consortium of Florida Education Foundations recently awarded Jacksonville Public Education Fund $250,701.44 in matching funds through the School District Education Foundation Matching Grant Program to support the Teacher Leadership Initiative and School Leadership Initiative.

JPEF’s Teacher Leadership Initiative empowers Teachers of the Year to implement equity-focused best practices at their schools. Teachers embark on a world-class professional learning experience with leading experts on trauma-informed practice, action research in classrooms, and restorative justice. Then, JPEF supports teacher leaders to implement the best practices through coaching with fellow teacher leaders in Duval County. Finally, teacher leaders share the results of their work by leading a professional learning session of their own, presenting their project to educators in their school as well as educators across the Duval County education system.

JPEF’s School Leadership Initiative is a school-based and systems approach designed to transform good principals into phenomenal principals. It serves Title I Elementary School Principals of both traditional and charter schools in Duval County with the goals to:

  • Increase student learning gains by strengthening the quality of school leadership in economically challenged schools.
  • Provide research on national best practices regarding principal effectiveness to develop strategic approaches with district leadership.
  • Engage business and community leaders to provide broad support to School Leaders for leadership challenges.

The Consortium has received legislative matching funds which provide a dollar-for-dollar incentive for local education foundations to raise private contributions for eligible projects for more than 20 years. Since the inception of the program, more than $140 million in combined private and state dollars has been provided for local projects that serve students, literacy initiatives, encourage STEM and career/technical education, increase classroom innovation, support teachers, and/or increase graduation rates.

The Consortium is the membership organization for Florida’s school district-wide local education foundations. Established in 1987, the Consortium connects individuals, organizations, and financial resources to build the capacity and effectiveness of local education foundations throughout the state in achieving student success. The Consortium now has 64 member foundations with 1,100 business and community leaders serving as volunteer board members. Jacksonville Public Education Fund is a proud member, representing Duval County. Collectively, the local education foundations raise $83 million annually to support students, teachers, and schools through a variety of programs. The Consortium has facilitated more than $68 million to local education foundations since 2002 through various private- and public-sector partnerships, including the State of Florida School District Education Foundation Matching Grant Program.
